While the 202nd annual Oktoberfest is wrapping up this week in Munich, Bayview Thriftway and the Bayview School of Cooking are making preparations for their own annual Oktoberfest on Friday, October 19 from 5 to 8 pm.  This event brings people in the community together to celebrate everything Fall has to offer.

Oktoberfest, open to all ages, is an expanded version of Bayview’s “Fridays Uncorked” event with many added Fall features.  A German Bier tasting will give guests a chance to try a wide variety of German brews and sample cheeses that are expertly selected to pair with each beer.

The deck will be adorned with twinkly white lights, hay bales, corn stalks and pumpkins.  The festive, inviting atmosphere will be complete with German polka music playing throughout the evening.   “It felt like we were really at Oktoberfest,” said Bayview Cooking School Director Leanne Willard of last year’s event.

A grilled bratwurst dinner will be for sale, featuring grilled Redhook bratwurst, German potato salad, autumn apple slaw, harvest beans and a choice of non-alcoholic beverages.    This dinner special can be enjoyed on the deck under the lights and stars, upstairs or even packaged to take home for an easy Friday night dinner.

Throughout the store, you’ll find specials highlighting Fall and Halloween products.  Dancing Goats Espresso will be featuring a special Fall drink at the event.  “Chai-der”, a creamy combination of chai and hot apple cider will be available to ward off the Fall chill.

Pumpkins carved by Bayview’s employees will be on display, and guests will be invited to judge the pumpkins and vote for their favorites.  There will also be a pumpkin carving demonstration by the owners of the famed Pumpkin House in the South Capitol neighborhood.  Their creative designs are sure to bring out the pumpkin-carving genius in all of us.

Bring a date, bring a friend or bring the whole family to celebrate the 202-year-old tradition of Oktoberfest and enjoy all this season has to offer.   The German Bier tasting with Cheese Pairings is $12 (please bring ID), and the Grilled Redhook Bratwurst Dinner will be available for $7.99.
