“We went last year expecting to stay for just a couple hours, thinking it might be small,” says Brent Lotz. “We ended up staying the entire day, not even realizing it! There was so much to do and it was so much fun, the hours flew by and it was closing time before we knew it.”
Tabletop Game Weekend in Olympia Expands to 2 Days
“Last year was so popular, drawing more people to the mall than Memorial Weekend, we decided to add a day based on feedback,” shares Hope Montag, marketing director for Capital Mall. “With so much to do, people wanted more time so we are giving it to them.”
This year’s event will take place during mall hours, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 2.
Expanding to two days means there will be even more to do at the 2024 Tabletop Game Weekend. Returning from last year will be the amazing Quest, hosted by PLAYLive Nation, with prizes for those who complete it during the weekend. “Our quests this year will be more in-depth and include some mini-games,” shares Tim Alexander, owner of PLAYLive Nation. “Also, we plan on doing Magic and Warhammer tournaments for the two days.” He is also excited about a bigger Tabletop Game weekend, with more games, more quests and more stores being involved!
Shop the South Sound Artisan Guilds vendors, full of whimsical items for daily wear, gaming, ren faire and fantasy garb, and everything in between! Every item is made by a local artist.
Also returning is the VIP Lounge, for VIP Ticket holders to relax and snack on provided goodies.
And of course, lots of tabletop board games for you to learn about and try your hand at! This year the ticked board game garden will be Fey themed. While you can purchase entrance the day of, buying your tickets to the Fey Board Game Garden in advance saves you waiting in line! Games will be led by professional game masters who will explain the games, play with you and answer your questions. There will also be the free board game space with more games.

New to the 2024 Tabletop Game Day in Olympia
There are some very exciting new additions to the expanded Tabletop Game Weekend, including a live, “Let’s Play Baldur’s Gate 3” at Cinemark. For two hours each day on Saturday and Sunday, a professional gamer will play Baldur’s Gate 3 live on the theater screen, with audience members helping them make decisions! It’s a gaming experience unique to Capital Mall and not to be missed! This special event is included in VIP tickets.
Has questing made you hungry? Food trucks outside Capital Mall will be there both days of the event. “Our food truck day was so popular that our food trucks sold out,” shares Montag, “so we are bringing them back for this event.” And of course, the mall has plenty of places inside to grab a bite if you don’t want to leave the action. Wetzel’s Pretzels will be demonstrating making fresh pretzels right outside their space!
LARP demonstrations from the Thurston County chapter of Amtgard in the Macy’s Court will give you a chance to watch demo fights, ask questions, or sign a waiver and get in on the action! They will also have an assortment of costumes to look at as well as foam weapons. Fighters from Amtgard chapters in other parts of Washington, Canada, and Oregon will be in attendance.
In addition to the Quest, in 2024 you can complete several tasks to join a Super Secret Faction and earn a pin on Sunday. There will be a special kid’s zone in the play area by JCPenny with activities for kids, including story time and mermaid meet-and-greets.
Ticket Information for Capital Mall’s Tabletop Game Weekend
All tickets are for both days of the event! Regular admission gives you access to all the public areas for the event. Board Game Garden tickets give you access to all regular admission locations as well as the Fey Garden and special raffle prizes.
