As summer draws to a close and school is just around the corner, it’s easy to get caught up in the workaday hustle and bustle. But if you’re able to put a warm, healthy dinner on the table for your kids, take a minute to be both mindful and thankful. All Kids Win is a Thurston County nonprofit whose vision is simple: to never let hunger get in the way of student success. They provide weekend food bags to middle and high school students in North Thurston, Tumwater and Olympia and K-12 students in Tenino, Rainier, Yelm and Rochester. On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, you can support them by dining out at their annual Shop, Savor, Support, All Kids Win event.

Fight Food Insecurity by Dining Out on August 28 to Benefit All Kids Win

Why cook dinner and wash dishes when you can enjoy a local restaurant instead on Wednesday, August 28? Why put off your honey-do list another day when shopping can help feed food insecure teens? Head out that day and benefit All Kids Win as part of their fourth annual Shop, Savor, Support, All Kids Win.

Participating businesses are dedicating a portion of the day’s sales to help students thrive. The event, which began during the socially distanced, to-go dining days of COVID-19, is expected to raise nearly $5,000 this year. Nearly twice as many shops and restaurants have opted in and more are always welcome to join the fun.

“This gets people to think about serving the kids again,” says Events and Communication lead Stephanie Hemphill. “It’s super easy to choose to go out and choose to give back to the community.”

Your Help Can Ensure All Kids Win as they Build a Brighter Future

All Kids Win feeds more than 1,000 students each week across 48 schools. Their weekend meal bags cost approximately $10 each and in the 2022-2023 school year alone, more than 35,000 were distributed.

Says one student recipient, “The food bags helped a lot because being hungry makes it hard for me to focus and when I can’t focus, I can’t do my work or feel motivated to do schoolwork and take care of basic needs.”

There are many ways you can continue to help all year round. From bag sponsors who fund the bags which transport food in a sturdy, secure manner, to hosting a food drive or volunteering, there’s something for everyone.

Consider joining the All Kids Win Club for $40 a month or $480 annually to feed one student for the entire school year. Or allocate your Washington State Combined Fund Drive or Fred Meyer Community Rewards.

While visiting their website, check out the All Kids Win events calendar for activities like the October’s Haunted 5K and next year’s tea party, golf tournament and so much more.

All Kids Win participating seniors who are set to graduate in June 2025 should check out the Follow Your Dream Scholarship. Applications are open from February 3 through April 11, 2025. Contact Deanna East at scholarship@allkidswin.org for more information.

Being a teenager is hard enough, even without the burden of food insecurity. Help All Kids Win take one less stressor off their plate by providing full plates—and bellies—for the weekend. Follow the organization on Facebook and Instagram for upcoming activities, ways you can help and newly added locations to shop, savor and support.
