Golf—like many relationships—has its ups and downs. Sportswriter Arthur Daley summed it up best when he said “Golf is like a love affair. If you don’t take it seriously, it’s no fun; if you do take it seriously, it breaks your heart.” Play your next 18 holes close to home at Little Creek Casino Resort’s award-winning Salish Cliffs Golf Club.

The game, as we know it today, started in Scotland in the 1400s. Bemused historians recall how in 1457 golf was banned for “interfering with archery practice, which was necessary for national defense.” The ban ended when King James IV of Scotland himself fell head over heels for the sport.

Its popularity shows no sign of slowing down 600 years later. In 2017 alone, more than 23 million American golfers eagerly took to the links. Even televised golf is addictive, with more than 32 million people watching the top 4 championship matches of 2018.

Whether you’re a serious devotee or simply love a weekend putter, schedule a session at Salish Cliffs this summer. Nestled in nearby Shelton, you’ll be out the door and on the green in less than 30 minutes from downtown Olympia. Ranked in the top 10 Casino Golf Courses in America from 2011 to 2018 and the World’s First Salmon Safe Certified Golf Course, this stunner is open to anyone and everyone.

Start your visit at the Golf Shop where they’ll get you set up with everything you could possibly need. Then pick up one of their GPS-enabled golf carts and off you go. Avid players will definitely benefit by signing up for an annual golf membership. Both tiers include discounted cart rental, upgraded range ball bag, and discounts in the pro shop. Pros and weekend Joes alike also have access to assessment and club fitting tools.

Need a little help before you’re ready to tackle the Majors? Never fear, Salish Cliff’s Golf Academy instructors are ready and waiting. There are also Junior Camps for those 7- to 17-years-old and a Ladies Only class offered weekly. Be on the lookout for Ladies Wine and Nine, which includes an educational golf clinic, 9-holes of golf, and a glass of wine in a commemorative wineglass.

If playing works up an appetite or you get postponed by unexpected rain showers, stop by the Salish Cliffs Grille for a bite. Sit indoors or out, weather permitting, and relax with their amazing menu of lighter, casual fare.

Though we may pretend otherwise, most of us play on a more laid-back, recreational basis. We escape for a quickie turn on the green in between work, weekend chores, kids, and a full calendar. Turn your next game into an escape with one of Little Creek’s hotel and resort packages.

Stay and Play (promo code: golf) includes overnight stay, 18 holes of golf, cart rental, bag of range balls, and free play opportunities. Find yourself creaky after a good game? Consider the Stay, Spa, and Swing package (promo code: spa). This offers all of the Stay and Play benefits plus a 50-minute Classic Swedish massage or $80 credit towards one spa service.

The on-site Seven Inlets Spa is a treat not to be missed. If massage isn’t your thing, try an organic facial, body treatments galore—like waxing, sugaring, and deep conditioning—or a perfect post-game mani/pedi. Book spa treatments directly online or by calling 360-462-1772. Hotel reservations are available through the website or by calling 800-667-7711.
