Like so many other Olympia natives, Kathryn Potvin was living in another city when she felt the pull back to the Pacific Northwest. “I was living and working in Nevada but I missed Olympia and knew it was the perfect place to raise our daughter,” Potvin explained in the offices of her firm Putnam Lieb Potvin, Attorneys at Law.
Potvin moved back to Olympia in 2007 and is living just one mile from the house she grew up in. “I love the outdoors and the proximity to the ocean – two mountain ranges is unparalleled,” says Potvin. Today Potvin is a partner in the firm that was established in 1980 by the original partner, Kim Putnam.
The legal team at Putnam Lieb Potvin is uniquely qualified to handle everything from personal injury, accidents, worker’s compensation and wrongful death.
Potvin knew she wanted to be a lawyer at a very young age. Her father was a State of Washington Assistant Attorney General for 38 years. She often accompanied him to his offices and was interested in the cases he was involved in. A quick mind and a love of reading led her to law school after she graduated from California Lutheran University in 1995.
Potvin took a year off to care for her mother-in-law and studied for the LSAT (Law School Admittance Test) and was off to the Arizona State University College of Law in Tempe shortly thereafter. Following in her father’s government footsteps, she did an externship for a Federal Court judge in Las Vegas, Nevada. Potvin practiced law in Las Vegas for eight years in the fields of personal injury and worker’s compensation before returning to her hometown of Olympia almost ten years ago. Her work in Nevada produced groundbreaking case law in the area of injured workers.
We are fortunate to have her expertise in Thurston County where she has received honors as a Thomson Reuters Rising Star, a U.S. News Best Lawyer and a Seattle Met Top Lawyer.
“My daughter has the same fifth grade teacher I had growing up,” says Potvin. “I had to move to the desert to appreciate the rain forest but I am so happy to be back in the Pacific Northwest.”
