The Olympia Downtown Alliance is powering a street festival in historic Downtown Olympia that includes live music and performances, activities for kids and families, interactive art installations from local artists, local community groups, and a Biergarten featuring craft beer from 3 Magnets Brewing Co. and Well 80 Brewhouse. LoveOly Summer Fest 2021, is presented by the City of Olympia. The last Summer Fest of the year will take place this Saturday, August 28, from noon to 6 pm.

Entertainment Line Up – Saturday, August 28

The Olympia Film Society (OFS) has partnered with the Downtown Alliance to produce the headline acts for the festival on the Main Stage in the Entertainment Area, sponsored by Olympia Federal Savings. Jonathan Michael Richman will headline the Main Stage while Olympia’s own Oh, Rose will provide support.

Jonathan Michael Richman is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. In 1970, he founded the Modern Lovers, an influential proto-punk band. Since the mid-1970s, Richman has worked either solo or with low-key acoustic and electric backing. He now plays only acoustic to protect his hearing. He is known for his wide-eyed, unaffected, and childlike outlook and music influenced by music from around the world while rooted in rock and roll.

Oh, Rose, based in Olympia, Washington, is fronted by Olivia Rose. The Olympia, Washington-based band Oh, Rose tells complex stories of family, adversity, love, and friendship.

In addition to Main Stage acts, Saturday’s Summer Fest is full of other activities!

12 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. Illusion of Elvis, music. Location: the Main Stage. Danny is known for his high-energy Elvis Tribute shows that focus on connecting with his audience. He enjoys performing all three decades of Elvis’ career.

1:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: Swing Dance Social, dancingLocation: 5th and Washington. Free lesson provided by David Accurso!

2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.: Salsa Dance Social. Location: 5th and Washington. Free lesson provided by Rudy Romero! No partner is needed. Enjoy the sounds of Latin America. All dance levels are welcome.

3:30 p.m. – 3:50 p.m.: Ian Forester, music. Location: 5th and Washington. Ian is a singer/songwriter of Contemporary Folk from Olympia.

4 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.: Summer Fest welcomes Oh, Rose to the Main Stage. Location: On the Main Stage in front of the Capitol Theater, 206 East 5th.

4:45 p.m. – 5 p.m.: SambaOly, dance. Location: 5th and Washington. Samba OlyWA is an amateur percussion and dance group dedicated to building community by learning and sharing Samba and other rhythms. They provide the opportunity for anyone, regardless of experience, to join them as they take their spirited and joyous energy to the streets and the stage.

5 p.m. – 6 p.m.: Summer Fest welcomes Jonathan Michael Richman to the Main Stage. On the Main Stage in front of the Capitol Theater, 206 East 5th.

Here’s What’s Happening in the Activity Area on 5th between Capital and Washington for Kids and Families from the Hands on Children’s Museum

2 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Radiance Massage & Yoga.

2 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Sarah Foster, Stilt Walker.

3 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Mr. Twister, Balloon Twister.

1 p.m. – 6 p.m.: Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament.

Community Group: Olympia Historical Society: Stop by this week’s community group, Olympia Historical Society, and learn more about Olympia’s maritime history! Visitors will enjoy:

  • Various materials and handouts. (Posters, panoramic views of cities, membership forms, and back issues of Thurston county journals
  • Blown-up photographs of our city on easels
  • Get a map of the Maritime Heritage self-guided tour along the boardwalk!
