TRL WorkshopDIY Success: Plan it with Arts Administrator Eleanor Whitney on August 13th at the Olympia Timberland Library

Come with a do-it-yourself idea you want to develop. Leave with the concrete steps to make it so.

Eleanor C. Whitney, arts administrator and author of “Grow: How to Take Your Do It Yourself Project and Passion to the Next Level and Quit Your Job!” will lead a workshop at the Olympia Timberland Library on Tuesday, August 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The event is free of charge.

The workshop will focus on giving participants the tools they need to make their dream projects a success and the motivation that comes with knowing they are part of a strong community of DIY creators and entrepreneurs. Attendees will work in groups to set and share their ideas, articulate their goals and identify areas where they’ll need additional resources.

Whitney is a writer, rock musician, educator, and arts administrator who finds joy in bringing order to the chaos of creativity. She writes extensively about art, culture and nonprofit management. She published the art zine “Indulgence” for 15 years and was a cofounder of the Portland Zine Symposium. Whitney lives in Brooklyn, NY, and blogs at http://killerfemme.com/. Her website is http://growdiy.com/

“Grow” is a field guide for people with ideas for independent projects in publishing, music, food, art, craft, activism or community work. Its purpose is to show the way to success and sustainability on one’s own terms. The book helps readers to clarify their project vision, get organized, set goals, create a plan, raise funds for, market, and manage their do-it-yourself project. The book includes inspiration and business advice from successful business owners and creative people with projects that began in the do-it-yourself spirit.

The workshop is sponsored by the Friends of the Olympia Timberland Library. The library is located at 313 8th Avenue SE, Olympia. For more information, please contact the library at (360) 352-0595 or visit www.TRL.org.
