The show is based on a true story and inspired by interviews conducted by the playwright over several years. I Am My Own Wife tells the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite who managed to survive both the Nazi onslaught and the repressive East German Communist regime. Actor Corey McDaniel delivers gripping dialogue of nearly forty different characters to tell Charlotte’s story: what it takes to survive and make a difference for the unspoken members of a community.

Harlequin will host a Community Forum, with moderator Anna Schlecht, to address the current relevance of the play, I Am My Own Wife. The goal of the forum is to discuss the importance of understanding aging, social justice, domestic abuse support, and empathy within LGBTQA+ communities. The panel will include representatives from PFLAG Olympia, Pizza Klatch, SAGE Olympia, and Rainbow Center of Tacoma.
