Submitted by Thurston County

The deadline for Thurston County residents to pay their 2020 first half property taxes is Monday, June 1, 2020. This due date is different than what is printed on 2020 property tax statements, which were mailed before the current health crisis affected daily routines in our community.

Treasurer Jeff Gadman exercised his emergency authority under RCW 84.56.020(10) and extended the due date for 2020 first half property tax payments to provide some relief to taxpayers affected by the COVID-19 virus. Because so many of the service providers vital to responding to the health crisis rely on timely property tax payments for a significant portion of their funding, there will be no further changes to the due date.

With the courthouse currently closed to the public, taxpayers have three options for paying their property taxes:

  • Online: Residents can pay online at www.thurstoncountywa.gov/treasurer. There is no additional charge for the electronic check payment option online, but there is a 2.35% transaction fee for a major credit card payment and a flat fee of $3.95 for a VISA debit card payment.
  • Drop Off: Payments can be dropped in the secure courthouse parking lot drop box – located at 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Olympia, WA 98502.
  • Mail: Check or money order payments can be mailed to the Thurston County Treasurer, 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Olympia, WA 98502. Payments made by mail must be postmarked by June 1, 2020.

Treasurer staff remain available to answer your questions by phone or email between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 360-786-5550 or email trsr@co.thurston.wa.us.

As required by Washington State law, interest will be charged for those who do not make their payments on time.

Property owners can also sign up for paperless property tax bills so they can receive future property tax bills electronically, saving paper and postage. For those who create an account, it comes with the option to schedule your tax payment in advance of the due date, and email payment reminders will be sent ahead of the due date.
