The City of Lacey Parks and Recreation Department recently launched a new online registration system that allows residents to access a variety of recreation services, including class schedules and reservations for park amenities such as picnic shelters. With the new system, users can also search for specific recreation activities, register for classes and programs,  and make payments.

Users can access the new system from a computer, smart phone, or other mobile device. It is beneficial not only for activity-seekers, but also for recreation coaches, instructors, and city employees. In the new system, recreation leaders can update information about upcoming games and practice schedules whenever they need. “Specifically, there are capabilities to put teams and rosters together,” says Desiree Atkin, recreation coordinator for the City of Lacey. “We can email rosters out to anybody. We do rosters for all of our classes we offer. The new system will make it much easier to do.”

The City of Lacey also has multiple picnic shelters that can be rented out through the new online registration system. Once an account is created, users can view a calendar of availability and reserve their picnic shelter of choice at parks like Rainer Vista Community Park and Woodland Creek Community Park.

The reservation process has been simplified from the previous system, as bookings can now be made exclusively online. “It used to be kind of a process,” explains Atkins. “You had to call in, send in an application, and then you got notified. Now you can do it all online. There are photos of the different locations for the picnic shelters, so you can go online, see the calendar, and make a reservation!”

With the new system, Lacey area residents are encouraged to create a new head of household account, even if they registered with the previous system. “When you go to the new system website, a welcome tab will pop up and it gives you instructions on how to create a new account,” explains Atkin. “Everyone will need to go in and create a new account.” Once they’ve created a new account, users have the freedom to add additional members to their account like spouses, children, or friends.

Atkin added that if users have any questions about registration or signing into their new account, they are welcome to contact the Lacey Parks and Recreation Department at (360) 491-0857.

With an account, users will also be able to view recreation course schedules and register online. Courses will be sorted by type of activity. Searches can be filtered further by a menu on the left side of the webpage, where users can search for activities based on age, day of the week, and location. Users will also be able to pay for recreation class fees through the new online system.

By introducing a new online registration system, the City of Lacey hopes more residents will be informed of Lacey’s recreational offerings and more residents will be able to access classes, activities, and facilities because of the more user-friendly online platform.

“We hope this will give access to more people in addition to the brochure that we send out and distribute throughout the community,” says Atkin. “The biggest and most exciting part is being able to create your own account and then being able to reserve the picnic shelters on your own and see a calendar of events. Because it is such an easier platform to use and it’s much more user friendly, we hope people will use it more and find it easier to navigate.”
