Final preparations are underway in Lacey where travelers will use the new Marvin Road (State Route 510) on-ramp to southbound Interstate 5. If the weather cooperates, the on-ramp could open as early as the morning of Tuesday, November 5.
The on-ramp will open in a temporary configuration while crews continue to advance the project. The newly paved 1.3-mile on-ramp, adjacent to southbound I-5, serves a dual purpose. In addition to providing access to southbound I-5, the new ramp will eventually connect to a new frontage road. The frontage road will serve planned development between Marvin and Carpenter roads. Access to the frontage road will remain closed until the City of Lacey builds connecting city streets.
Both are part of the Washington State Department of Transportation’s project to convert the Marvin Road overpass into a diverging diamond interchange. The mobility project is in advance of planned major development in Lacey.
The $48.5 million project to convert the Marvin Road overpass into a diverging diamond interchange is about halfway finished, with project completion expected during late 2020.
