The theme of this performance features the same quips and punchlines as the original with a fresh new plot. Dressed in the iconic floral power suit, God, played by critically acclaimed and award-winning comedian, Mike DeLamont, descends once more to skewer everything from the platypus to Pocahontas. This comical sequel has been 2,000 years in the making and begins with Mike emerging in his snarky, opinionated character that’s even more entertaining this time around. Olympia fell in love with the original show and this sequel is not to be missed.

“In this comedic performance event,” says Jill Barnes, executive director at the Washington Center, “God not only defies our cultural expectation of comportment and demeanor, but endearingly opens the door to looking at humanity and interpretations of the natural world and the ‘Holy Word’ in a new, humorous manner.” On stage, Mike is a true comedic genius.

Being a one man show, everything from lines to choreography needs to be spot on. “The show was first created in 2015,” explains Mike. “Initially, we weren’t sure if people would like it or really understand the humor behind it. After four years, there’s been such a high demand, which is exciting to see after an unsure start.” The original show is now a winner of more than 18 Best of the Fest awards as well as breaking ticket sale records at festivals across the continent with audiences waiting sometimes up to 10 hours to purchase tickets.

For those that haven’t seen the original show, there’s no need to worry as this is a stand-alone sequel. “Everyone will be brought up to speed at the start of the show,” says Mike. “This will be all new material that people of all ages will enjoy.” Originally from Canada, Mike performs many of his shows in his home country. He also travels extensively around the U.S. as well as around the world to countries including Australia, Scotland and England.

After the original show came to Olympia a few years back and was perceived so highly, the Washington Center excitedly took the opportunity to book the sequel show. “We booked this second show with the theater after meeting with them at a conference industry trade show,” explains Mike. To date, the sequel has already sold more tickets than the last, proving that the Olympia community is thrilled to see Mike back on stage. “It’s really exciting and feels great to hear and see audience members come back to the show and bring their friends,” states Mike. There are plans for a trilogy of the “God is a Scottish Drag Queen” series as well as a special Christmas show, meaning that there’s even more possibilities to see variations of this beloved show in the years to come.

The show will take place on Saturday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $32 and senior, student and military discounts are available. For more information about this show or to purchase tickets, visit the Washington Center for the Performing Arts website.
