June can be a wonderfully busy time of year: the warm weather invites us outside, the kids are out of school, families convene to celebrate graduations, and Father’s Day reminds us to show gratitude to our loved ones. For these reasons and more, the upcoming Garden Open and Brunch happening June 19 is a great opportunity to slow down and enjoy a meal with family and friends in an exceptionally beautiful setting, while supporting the non-profit Native Plant Salvage Foundation.

For the last three years, Native Plant Salvage has hosted a series of unique fundraising events called Garden Opens. Part garden tour, part pop-up restaurant, Garden Opens allow the public to get a glimpse of some of the most fabulous private gardens in Thurston County. Alongside the scenery, visitors enjoy music, handcrafted food and beverages, and special features like garden tours with native plant experts.

The Garden Open happening on Father’s Day will feature Paula and Rick Finch’s stunning Boston Harbor property. The lush, forested drive gives way to a footpath through lovingly maintained gardens and dense forest, before opening up to a hidden bluff that reveals an incredible view across the Sound to the Olympics. The Finches have spent years cultivating a dynamic northwest naturalistic landscape, complete with out-of-the-ordinary perennials, a diverse collection of native and water-wise species, and an assortment of mature specimen trees.

In addition to a tour through the yard, and a pop-up plant sale featuring select species propagated from the garden, visitors can explore the grounds at their leisure and savor a delicious home-cooked brunch featuring ingredients from local farms. This is a perfect event for gathering with loved ones or simply enjoying a meal in beautiful garden setting.
