As a kid, there are few things better than summer vacation. We can all remember waiting for that final bell that let us know we had a couple of months of no homework, nice weather and plenty of time with friends. But now that you’re a parent, summer vacation can be something you come to dread. How do I keep my child busy? How can I make sure they are safe and having fun while I work? The answer to all of these questions and more is easy: the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County’s summer day camps!

“My favorite part is fun and exciting field trips!” shares Jeanne, age 11, Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County summer camper.

Summer Camps in Olympia, Lacey, Rochester, Tumwater and Yelm

Kids grow up all too fast. Soon adult responsibilities will take away those coveted free summers, replacing them with work and other commitments. But it’s about more than just a time off from school, summers are a vital time for kids to learn and grow, physically, emotionally and cognitively. “Summer vacation can be a special time for kids to build lifelong memories, make new friends, take field trips, learn a new dance, throw water balloons, and play outside,” shares Shellica Trevino, chief executive officer for Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County.

“I had a lot of people to play with and liked that we had fun staff,” shares Emmett, age 8, Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County summer camper.

With these important things in mind, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County have curated their summer camps to help your child thrive – not just for this summer, but when they return to school as well. The caring mentors at the camps will help your child as they grow and develop. Meeting new friends can help children feel loved and like they belong. A new hobby or skill can spark an interest that just might lead to a career or foster a love of learning they didn’t have before.

During the summer camps located in Olympia, Lacey, Rochester, Tumwater and Yelm, youth will learn social skills while participating in art, sports and other hands-on academic activities. Field trips add interest and fun to the summers.

In Lacey, they are offering a free summer camp at the Raj Manhas Activities Center. This special program is a drop-in summer day camp for teens. Like the other camps, they will also do activities, take field trips and develop leadership skills.
