The Capital Playhouse Board of Directors announces the cancelation of the 2013-14 “Season in a Box” productions in order to reorganize for the future.
This difficult decision follows several extremely challenging years. In January 2012, Capital Playhouse had debts of over $400,000. Since then The Board of Directors and our dedicated staff have made tremendous progress in reducing these debts while continuing to provide exceptional performances in both our “Season in a Box” and “Kids at Play” programs.
Despite these successes, the Board believes the Playhouse needs to restructure its organization and refocus its energies to ensure a sustainable future for Capital Playhouse. The Board recognizes that they cannot focus on the future and rebuild the Capital Playhouse organization while maintaining day to day operations. An apt analogy is trying to change the tires on a moving car. With this in mind, the Board made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s “Season in a Box”.
Thursday August 15 is the opening of West Side Story, the final show of the 2013 Kids at Play Season. West Side Story will run through Sunday August 18. The Playhouse will return to regular performances with the 2014 Summer Season.
On Saturday August 10, Capital Playhouse will be conducting a fundraiser and talent show in support of the Kids at Play program from 6:00 until 8:30pm. Featured performers include the Kids at Play students and alumni, in addition to the Olson brothers’ band. All proceeds will go towards funding the Kids at Play program. We look forward to seeing you there!
On Monday August 19, the Playhouse will hold their annual picnic at Burfoot Park, where the 2014 Kids at Play shows will be announced.
