On April 19, 2012, ThurstonTalk published Jake Luplow’s first article.   It was a heartfelt story about the role of the Yelm Timberland Library in the community.

As the editor, I read every word that is published to ThurstonTalk.  We pride ourselves on retaining a writer’s voice, even through the editing process.  Jake’s writing style is unique.  It’s passionate and poetic.  He tackles assignments, regardless of his original interest in the topic, with intensity.  He is naturally curious about people and through interviews uncovers their true self.  He then is able to translate those discussions into a moving story that educates a reader.

Jake’s skills extend beyond the keyboard.  An avid photographer, Jake has documented Thurston County through photos about Procession of the Species, Memorial Day, and downtown Olympia art.

In June, we say goodbye to Jake.  His path through Thurston County is coming to an end as he begins his next adventure at Cornell College in Iowa.  Without a doubt, this is just the beginning of Jake’s bylines.

Today, I picked a few of my favorite articles, authored by Jake Luplow.  Thanks, Jake, for the heartfelt, often tear jerking stories.
