Lacey Alternative Energy Fair To Showcase Green Energy

The Lacey Alternative Energy Fair will celebrate 16 years of showcasing green energy— including alternative fuels, renewable resources, and energy conservation and efficiency—on Saturday, May 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Lacey’s Huntamer Park.The event also features the Lacey Grand Prix Electric Car Race, free entertainment, and a 90-mile MPG rally.

The Grand Prix highlights high school clubs and hobbyists from around the Northwest—including a team from River Ridge High School—competing to drive custom electric vehicles for the longest total distance in one hour. High school and open division races begin at 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with winners announced during a 3:00 p.m. ceremony.

MPG Rally participants will attempt to beat Environmental Protection Agency miles-per-gallon ratings for their vehicles.Registration for the rally will be held from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. the day of the event.

Numerous informational displays will feature residential solar and wind technologies; energy-saving construction techniques; and vehicles powered by electricity, biodiesel, and natural gas.

The event also includes a visit from Captain Recycle. The captain, piloting his amazing recycle boat, will engage fair attendees with interactive games and activities themed around recycling and conservation.
