Culinary Class At Westport Winery With Celebrity Chef Eva Roberts

Westport Winery is proud to have Eva Roberts, the owner and creative genius behind Spokane’s preeminent bakery Just American Desserts, teach “Just Stuff It” on Sunday, March 10, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Winery co-owner, Kim Roberts, will pair each of Eva’s recipes with one of Westport’s award-winning wines. Despite sharing the same last name, these Roberts women are not blood relatives, though they say they both have chocolate in their veins. Eva was Kim’s mentor in opening the bakery at Westport Winery last year.

During this culinary indulgence, Eva will teach students to make choux pastry which is the heart of making éclairs and profiteroles (small cream puffs). She will then fill these pastries with fresh vanilla custard, whipped cream and other homemade indulgences. The second recipe features fresh banana cupcakes filled with peanut butter custard and topped with chocolate buttercream frosting. And finally she will demonstrate a series of filled cookies that will make you swoon. The price to attend this class is $30 per person or $25 for wine club members. Reservations are required.

In 1986, Eva Roberts and her family saw a need for high quality, from scratch cakes and desserts. For over two decades they have specialized in desserts using only the finest, freshest ingredients. In 2009, Just American Desserts won the Spokane Chamber of Commerce’s Agora Award for Small Business. Just American Desserts was the recipient of the “Best of the Inland Northwest” desserts category in 2005 and 2006. The Pacific Northwest Inlander Magazine wrote of Roberts business, “These are desserts that epitomize the best of what dessert should be—an exquisite out-of-the-ordinary treat that will lift an average day to the level of celebration.”

Westport Winery and Vineyards By-the-Sea with its unique sculpture garden and grape maze is located on the corner of Highway 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Aberdeen and the Westport ‘Y’. The winery and bakery are open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The restaurant is open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and for dinner on Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. For reservations call 360-648-2224.
