The 2016 West Coast tour of “Sister Spit” will touch down at the Olympia Timberland Library on Thursday, March 17 from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m.

The seven performance artists that comprise the group offer a critical, often humorous lens to issues of feminism, race, size, class, identity, technology, gender and sexuality.

The group was founded in 1994 as an all-female, open mic troupe, to challenge the overwhelmingly male dominance of open mic events at that time. Since then it has become an annual, multi-gendered, queer/feminist performance tour, welcoming all artists who mesh with the tour’s historic vibe of feminism, queerness, humor and provocation.

In 2012, Sister Spit entered into a partnership with the City Lights Publisher, and the imprint Sister Spit Books was born. The new publishing label launched with an anthology, “Sister Spit: Writing, Rants and Reminiscence from the Road.” More publications, some of them award-winning, followed: novels, poetry, and even a memoir.
