The “Heritage Builders” history program of the Olympia Tumwater Foundation, with support from the City of Tumwater, continues with our very popular free guided tours of Tumwater’s historic Schmidt House throughout the summer and fall.  These one hour tours are led by Bob Crim who for 60 years has been the caretaker of the house and grounds.  The tour schedule includes the public tours on the second Tuesday of each month at 11:00 a.m. and special group tours are also available by appointment.

It’s no wonder that the groups give Bob standing ovations at the end!  His stories are a special treat as he shares about “Driving Clara Schmidt”, shearing sheep, taking care of the visiting grandkids, and his memories of each room in the house, including the special favorite room on level 3 and the archival treasures in the basement.  He tells a special ghost story at the close and concludes with a special surprise that the general public doesn’t get to see.

Take note:  the tours are limited to 15-20 people and take just over an hour.  The tour requires negotiating stairways to three floors and the basement level.  Tours are free, but donations are greatly appreciated.  Doors open at 10:45 a.m. and the tour begins at 11:00 a.m.  The summer/fall 2016 tour dates are:  July 12, August 9, September 13, October 11, and November 8.
