Christmastime brings joys of many kinds as we focus on Advent, share time with neighbors and friends, sing songs together, share meals together, and look for good in the world around us. For choirs, it is the time to share music.

This year, Elizabeth Berndt, director of Women of Note, South Puget Sound’s auditioned vocal ensemble based in Mason County, was inspired by songs she enjoys from a favorite Canadian women’s ensemble, Electra. A featured title in the program was written specifically for them by pianist and composer Stephen Smith, who has shared his manuscript, making Women of Note the only other choir to have sung this brilliant rendition of Winter Wonderland, Let it Snow and White Christmas. The fantastic accompaniment, played by April Kuhr, features not only gorgeous piano, but birdlike flute and various percussion instruments. The Olympia String Consort joins Women of Note for songs including The First Noel, Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, Angels from The Realms of Glory and I’ll Be Home for Christmas. Women of Note is becoming famous for their interesting programing and unusual repertoire, so you can expect tantalizing twists on carols you know along with stunning choral surprises for the season.

Women of Note performs for donations so everyone can celebrate the season with music. And, it’s their way of saying, “thank you” to the organizations, businesses and individuals who support their music throughout the year. They invite you to join them for an entertaining evening of music as a memorable part of your Christmas celebrations. Free concert; donations greatly appreciated!
