The Olympia Coalition for Ecosystems Preservation and Native Plant Salvage are hosting an Earth Day Event at the Westside Heronry. We will be joined by several dozen volunteers from the Evergreen State State College who are making restoration of the West Bay Woods part of their Inauguration Day Celebrations.

Volunteers will plant a large rain garden area, remove ivy from the trees and surrounding ground, spread mulch on cleared areas and plant native plants to re-establish the understory. They will learn about managing invasive species, the importance of addressing runoff in the nearshore forests of our city and forest restoration. Most importantly, volunteers will learn about efforts to conserve urban open-space through advocacy and community action. Come prepared for the weather. Bring work gloves if you have them. All tools and materials will be provided.
