As easy as pie. A piece of cake. Yes, shopping at Olympia’s The Rolling Pin is fun as well as a fabulous place to satisfy many a culinary need. Located above The Park Side Café on the westside, the kitchenware heaven is big enough to display a wide array of products yet small enough to keep you from being overwhelmed.

Victoria Kantargis and Kelly Green manage the woman-owned and operated business that stocks thoughtful kitchen tools with a focus on eco-friendly, non-toxic, sustainable, durable and USA-made items. Local artisans are also represented. “We work to support our community by selling locally made goods such as ceramics, cutting boards, carbon steel pans, dish towels and dish soap bars,” says Victoria.

Sustainable Kitchen Products in Olympia at The Rolling Pin

As thoughtful consumers look to choices beyond single use products, The Rolling Pin is ready. How about washable silicone baking mats instead of parchment? There are reusable/washable coffee filters, and dish scrubbers made with recycled materials. Put reusable silverware and cloth napkins in packed lunches. Beeswax wraps come in cute styles and many colors. Use them for covering containers or wrapping up your sandwich. Check out the berry boxes that keep your fruit fresher and longer. Food storage containers are there, too. It may be surprising how easy it can be to switch to more environmentally kind products.

The Rolling Pin stocks compostable kitchenware. Take a look at the dish soap bars, natural fiber dish brushes and more. There are cutting boards made from plant and recycled materials, too. Consider using a compost bin that sits on your counter or under the sink. It can keep your food waste out of the landfill and brings awareness to your food consumption.

“We recycle as much as we possibly can, from cardboard boxes, removing stickers from plastic packaging, and turning gift wrap paper scraps into cute gift bows,” explains Victoria.

Knife Sharpening in Olympia

“We work with a local blacksmith to provide knife sharpening,” notes Victoria. “It’s a great way to take care of your kitchen tools instead of choosing to buy new.” Drop off your own knives to be sharpened by Maumasi Fire Arts. Once a month they are picked up on a Sunday and returned the next Thursday.

An excellent quality knife in your kitchen is a worthy expense. If you have never used a high-end knife, you don’t know the difference it makes. Your skill, precision and ease increase dramatically with a sharp, well-made knife. The Rolling Pin carries STEELPORT Knives, which are made in Portland. With a lifetime warranty, you will be set for years of use.
