Jerk Juicy BBQ Provides Friendly Takeout Service During COVID-19

Jerk Juicy BBQ opened in July 2021 and is currently owned and operated by Deborah Nimocks and her 17-year-old son Payton, who were both born and raised in Yelm. “I’ve owned the flower shop since 2001,” Deborah shared. “We opened right out of COVID when there still were many businesses without indoor seating options. Our intent was to extend the business to catering and smoked meats to provide the community with another takeout option, which is why we have a serving window.” The takeout window is convenient and allows customers to grab their food to go enjoy at home or on one of the outdoor seating benches in front of the location. Jerk Juicy also offers online and contactless delivery options via the Jerk Juicy website, DoorDash and Uber Eats.

As Jerk Juicy BBQ Catering continues to grow in popularity, Deborah hopes to branch out even more as a business. “Eventually we’ll do indoor seating, but there’s renovations our building needs done before then,” Deborah said. “For now, I just want to continue growing and produce amazing food that makes people smile.”

A Thurston Community Favorite Restaurant

From finger-licking ribs to mac-and-cheese burritos, Deborah’s son Peyton is the skilled pitmaster behind Jerk Juicy’s delectably smoked meats. To produce quality meat smoked to perfection, Peyton keeps a balanced routine to ensure all food is ready to serve. “I try to start around 7 to prepare everything,” Peyton shared. “Throughout the day I cook as I go, so everything is fresh, and nothing is left overnight in the fridge.”

Customers have traveled far and wide to get a taste of the food and friendly service from this dynamic mother-son duo. Their customer base ranges from high school students to seniors with one thing in common: they are all lovers of good barbecue. “We have had people drive here from Seattle,” Deborah shared, “So, word of us is getting out there.”

So, what’s Jerk Juicy BBQ’s most-talked about specialty item? “The mac-and-cheese brisket burrito is probably our number-one seller,” shared Peyton. This mouth-watering

fan-favorite is served with your choice of meat and gooey mac-and-cheese smothered in a flour tortilla and topped with their special in-house Jerk Juicy Sauce. “One of our customers requested this when we first opened,” Deborah recalled. “At first, we weren’t sure, then one day, we added it as a specialty menu item, and it was a hit! I decided to officially put it on the menu.”

John Glassmeyer, a Jerk Juicy regular, raves about the amazing food and service he receives every visit. “I always get the half pound of pulled pork and quarter pound of sliced brisket,” Glassmeyer shared. “It’s the best barbecue I’ve had in town. I love being able to sit outside on a nice day, relax, and have a great meal.”

Since opening in 2021, Jerk Juicy has participated in Lacy South Sound’s BBQ Rally where they won People’s Choice, and was voted Best BBQ of the Nisqually Valley in 2021. Their food continues to reach new customers from the South Sound to Seattle, and Deborah has Peyton to thank for their rapid growth. “Peyton puts all his work and passion into what he does,” Deborah shared. “He’s so young and does so much for this business. I’m so proud of him.”
