It may be spring, but it’s already time to think about children’s summer camps and The Little Gym in Olympia has opened online registration for its July and August sessions. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to serve our community again this summer,” says owner Melissa Lilley of The Little Gym’s upcoming camps.

The Little Gym in Olympia is a Child Development Program Founded in Gymnastics

The Little Gym provides activities founded in gymnastics that are designed to encourage children’s physical, cognitive and social development. The Little Gym embraces a proprietary philosophy called Three-Dimensional Learning where physical activity is a conduit for nurturing the whole child. This approach challenges children to develop new physical, emotional and life skills.

“We provide extra opportunities for kiddos to have fun while they are here, and also get social, cognitive and physical development,” says Melissa. She adds that a typical schedule includes spending an hour in the gym with activities, games and exploratory time, followed by an hour in the side room for snacks and crafts, and then the final hour is back in the gym.

Children from the Olympia area as well as Yelm, Centralia, Chehalis, Aberdeen and throughout Thurston County have participated in The Little Gym’s summer and year-round programs.

The Little Gym’s 2023 Summer Camps Offer Flexibility in Scheduling

The Little Gym is offering daytime summer camps July 5 through August 31 for children ages 3 to 12. Classes are capped at 20 children per session. The 2023 camp sessions run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

They provide flexibility by offering passes for purchase. Parents who need to change a camp day can use the pass on a different day with 48 hours’ notice. Passes can be shared with siblings. “Parents can choose how many days a week they want their kids to come,” Melissa says of the three-day-a-week summer camp. “Some may come just on Tuesdays. Others are here every day.”

Summer Camps at The Little Gym Feature a Different Weekly Theme

Each 2023 summer camp weekly session will feature a different theme. “And, each day has a different adventure,” says Melissa.

  • July 5-6 is Yoga Kids & Mindful Friends. “This camp will boost the Super Kids bodies and brains with seriously fun activities that will encourage self- control, simple focus, and the adoption of yoga poses and mindful movements.”
  • July 11-13 is Harry’s School of Magic. “Each day will be a truly magical adventure with mysterious obstacles and mazes as the Super Kids practice taking risks and building self-confidence, all while making new friends! It will be a wonderfully wizardly time!”
  • July 18-21 is Shipwrecked…A Pirate Party. “Each day our little pirates will embark on a new adventure, sailing to a new island, and search for new, buried treasure!”
  • July 25-27 is Pajama Party. “The Super Kids are invited to wear their pajamas during this outrageously fun adventure. Games, Challenges and Hip-Hop Dancing will make this a Pajama Party to remember!”
  • August 1-3 is Under the Sea. “The Super Kids will embark on several underwater adventures to find the Missing Mermaid Palace all while making new friends along the way.”
  • August 8-10 is The Search for Rainbow Castle. “Experience the colorful world of The Little Gym through awesome crusades! We’ll float away on the ‘Giant Lilly Pad,’ climb across the ‘Twisted Tree Bridge’ and ‘Spend the night in Pine Cone Cave!’”
  • August 15-17 is The Race to Outer Space. “The Super Kids will experience out of this world adventures as they fly and dodge asteroids, comets and black holes!”
  • August 22-24 is Animal Adventures. “This immersive animal adventure will include games, crafts, and animals of all kinds.”
  • August 29-31 is Warrior Pack. “Test your ninja skills in this high impact experience! Obstacle courses, gymnastics, and physical exercises will transform the Super Kids into fierce (but fun!) warriors.”

Melissa says parents from last year’s camps said they liked that their children were active, plus the indoor camps give something fun and exciting to do even when it rains.
