South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) continually opens the door for community members to become further engaged, learn new skills, and grow through various programs and classes offered on campus. This summer, as sports have recently made a full return since the pandemic, the SPSCC Clipper Athletics is hosting an array of different SPSCC Clipper Summer Camps at the new Health & Wellness Center.

The planned Summer Camps were created especially for young sports-lovers looking to harness their skills through breakdowns, competitions and fun games. All camps are facilitated not only by coaches at the collegiate level, but also current SPSCC athletes. Upcoming camps include both soccer and volleyball created specifically for local Thurston County youth hoping to try something new or polish their current skillset.

Soccer Camps

The women’s and girls’ Clipper Soccer Camp will be offered June 22 through June 25 while the men’s and boys’ Clipper Soccer Camp takes place on June 29 through July 2. Players of all ages and abilities (3rd grade and up) will have the opportunity to learn new skills, build a passion for the game, and take their performance to the next level. On-field coaching from the highly trained coaches will help provide a new level of insight into the game. Campers will be separated into appropriate groups based on their age and ability. Both the men’s and women’s camps are for campers in third grade and up.

For those interested in learning the game of volleyball or simply mastering their favorite sport this summer, sign up for the Clipper Volleyball Camp available to girls, boys, women and men (kindergarten and up). Taking place July 25 through July 27, players will experience both team play and skill development. Additionally, on-court coaching from current SPSCC volleyball coaches will enhance their experience and create lasting memories. As with the soccer camps, participants will be placed in age and ability appropriate group settings for kindergarten through high school seniors.

The SPSCC Clipper summer camps are an exciting development for local kids to step out of their comfort zone and learn in a safe environment. “Now that we’re getting back on feet after COVID,” says Vernell Willingham, director of athletics at SPSCC, “prioritizing physical and mental health is always at forefront of our minds. We hope these camps can help the community engage with one another and get active once again.”

All camps will take place in the new Health & Wellness Center on the South Puget Sound Community College campus. Pricing and time of day varies per camp. All participants will receive a camp t-shirt to commemorate their experience. Learn more and sign up by visiting SPSCC Clipper Summer Camps webpage.
