Pope John Paul II High School finished sixth in the battle for the prestigious Scholastic Cup in class 1B. Each year the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) recognizes performance in the classroom and on the playing surface.

Recognizing well-rounded, high performing students is at the heart of the Scholastic Cup. Points are awarded to schools that finish at the top of their respective classification in state athletic competition and for team academic performance. Sportsmanship also factors into the calculation.

Ann Ashe, Academic Administrator for JPII, said she was incredibly proud of how well students performed this year. “One of our highest values is the encouragement of our students to see their successes with a wholistic view.”

At Pope John Paul II High School, participating in co-curricular activities is an essential part of the educational experience. In fact, the school offers more than 20 clubs and sports to choose from. Eighty-seven percent of JPII students play a sport and 59% participate in the arts.
