Adults know him as the lead singer and songwriter of the Seattle rock band The Presidents of the United States of America. But for the under-6 crowd, Chris Ballew is better-known as “Caspar Babypants”. The front man of the band whose best-known songs include Lump, Peaches,” and Dune Buggy, will be giving a free family-friendly concert under his Caspar Babypants persona next week in Shelton. The concert, sponsored by The Child Care Action Council, Early Learning Coalition of Mason County and The Foundation for Early Learning, takes place at 6 p.m. Saturday Jan. 25 at Olympic Middle School, 800 E. K Street.  The Early Learning Coalition of Mason County will also have several information tables featuring family resource organizations in Mason County.

Ballew will be performing songs from his recently released Caspar Babypants album, Baby Beatles. The album is a compilation of Beatles cover songs done in the style of children’s music.

The twice-grammy- nominated recording artist took a departure from his traditional rock music in 2009 to launch a project toward toddlers called Caspar Babypants.

He once told Amazon.com music reviewers, “I want to make music for the very young because I admire their associative, inventive imaginations and as an adult, I nurture creativity in myself.”

Ballew uses a three-string acoustic guitar when performing Caspar Babypants songs. To date, Ballew has released seven full-length albums as Caspar Babypants. The Baby Beatles album includes covers such as Here Comes The Sun, Penny Lane, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, and Yellow Submarine.

According to Ballew’s Caspar Babypants website, www.babypantsmusic.com, the Shelton performance is one of only a handful of concerts he will be performing in 2014 because after taking some time off with his family, Ballew will be releasing another Caspar Babypants album in September. He’s also working on two movie projects and releasing an upcoming album with other members of The Presidents of The United States of America.
