With the rain pelting the windows, it’s hard to be motivated to run outside.  I would prefer a cup of tea, magazine, and frankly a magic fairy that checked “exercise” off the to-do list for the day.  Instead, I turn to the ThurstonTalk.com archives for inspiration.  Here is a recap of some amazing women and their accomplishments on their respective fields.  Cheers!

Karen Bulger Brings National Championship Back To Thurston County

Currently a junior at Northwest Christian High School, Olympia native Karen Bulger traveled to Baltimore over the summer to compete in the National Junior Olympics.  The track and field superstar brought home the gold medal in the javelin and 13th in the shot put for the 15-16 year-old division.

Christie Agtarap – Comfortable In Water, on Bike, and On Her Feet

In August, athlete Christie Agtarap finished 7th in an Ironman race in Canada.  Just to clarify… the long-distance triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, followed bya  112-mile bike ride, topped off by a 26.2-mile marathon run.  Athletes complete these steps without a break.

Heidi Perry Pushes Past Mile Markers In Ultramarathon Events

Ok, so you know all about Ironman competitors, but what about Heidi Perry’s accomplishments in ultramarathons, covering more than 100 miles in an event.

Master Swimmer Evelyn Hoffman Shows Age Is Just A Number

No list of female athletes is complete without including Evelyn Hoffman.  At 94, Hoffman participates in the South Sound YMCA’s Master Swimming team.  (And, incidentally this may just be my favorite article published by Thurstontalk in 2012.)

I’m setting my empty cup in the sink, lacing up the sneakers, and heading outside.  Thanks, ladies.
