Kluh Jewelers in Lacey’s South Sound Center seduces every woman who passes by.  Shoppers cannot help but stop and ogle the glistening gems and divine watches. Whether you want to surprise your mom with some bling or ask your special someone to marry you, you’ll need to stop by Kluh’s show room.

Kluh’s show room may reek of elegance but, this is no stodgy, white-glove operation.  This fourth generation business welcomes you in as family and makes buying an heirloom or requesting a repair a comfortable process.  Matt Kluh is the current owner of the store and enjoys his work because he is able “to make people happy every day.  We can help people choose something they will have for the rest of their lives”.

Passing Down Tradition

In 1958, Grandpa Ted Kluh established the first store on the historic 4th Ave.  The storefront moved to Capital Way, and then finally into the current location in South Sound Center in Lacey.  For four generations, the Kluh family name has been known for its selection of fine jewelry and a reputation for community service.  Matt Kluh now owns the Lacey location.

The average service of their staff is over 15 years, so it is common for them to see repeat clients and cater to their personal tastes.  I sat down with Ursula Flom and she spoke about the atmosphere within the store, “it’s like family, and it just feels really good to be able to work here…like coming home.”

Kluh’s also has a full time professional bench jeweler, Steve Hawkins, who has over 30 years of experience and works on-site.  Customers have been known to move out of the area, and still mail their jewelry back to Steve for repair.  He has earned a reputation for trustworthy and professional restorations and repairs.  Kluh also offers custom designs and will work with clients to redesign an existing piece or collaborate with an artisan to make your dreams come true and use your ideas to create a very unique and memorable custom piece of jewelry.

Unique Selections

It is important when shopping for jewelry to have a good selection to choose from.  Kluh has a variety of jewelry designers as well as beautiful handcrafted watches.  However, what caught my eye in the showroom was the array of estate jewelry.  I am always drawn to heirloom jewelry, because I feel the history that comes with each piece.  There was such an extensive collection, and I’m looking forward to coming back to check on their new arrivals.  Customers are encouraged to stop in for a complementary jewelry cleaning and invited to explore the collections.

Nowadays, socially conscious consumers are concerned about the origin of their diamonds.  Kluh works exclusively with the Southern Africian Diamond Company, who can trace back each of its diamonds to the mine to ensure they are conflict free.  Matt Kluh has personally visited the mines and cutting facilities in South Africa to see first-hand how our diamonds are mined and cut.  Kluh Jewelers is able to offer a peace of mind to clients that is beyond industry standards.

Community Minded

The Kluh family has been active in the community and works with non-profit organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Boy and Girls Club and the Lacey Rotary.  Recently, the store employees participated in the second annual “Math For Life” program, where Thurston county school children participate in a scavenger hunt through local businesses and answer math questions.  The Kluh employees loved the interaction with the children and their parents, and gave away little prizes to everyone.  Just last month, our Lakefair princesses were presented with beautiful charm bracelets donated by Kluh Jewelers.  Making a positive impact and investing in the local community is a priority for the Kluh family.
