This weekend, there was no shortage of awesome events.  Thurston County residents could engage in a cultural event such as the Paddle to Squaxin tribal canoe journey or the Olympia Symphony Orchestra’s annual summer outdoor concert.  Or, perhaps you opted to cut loose with the Adam Craig Band at the Four Square Mile Music Festival to benefit Tenino’s swimming quarry.  And, our Thrifty Thurston post, a weekly article geared for parents looking for inexpensive family fun, highlighted even more ideas for weekend action.

Regardless of your weekend activities, it’s wonderful to live in Thurston County.  As writers, we are consistently amazed when interviewing event organizers for stories.  The time, effort, and soul that each volunteer organizer gives to our community is remarkable.  It’s a joy to bring their stories to you.

Olympia Pub Crawl Provides Good Times For A Good Cause

2012 Tribal Canoe Journey Lands In Olympia

Since the host of the tribal canoe journey rotates, it may be years before you can witness this cultural event again.  Loads of community members watched from boats, paddle boards, and shore to witness the historic landing of canoes and paddlers.  “It’s a native event, by natives, for natives but also open to our friends and neighbors who want to come and watch,” said Bridget Ray, the long range planner for the Squaxin Island Tribe.
