The other day I inspected a home very near my house that had several areas of siding damage and overall poor installation of the siding, missing flashing, gaps etc. The young man that purchased the home was going to do some of the work himself.

I drove by one nice day and could see he was in the process of removing the siding and making repairs. He was outside so I pulled into his driveway to take a look. From my impromptu stop I got to see the damages of long term exposure to moisture.

Several of the framing members had been eaten away by moisture ants and damp wood termites. Due to all the damage I was surprised the corner of the home was still standing.

Take a look at these pictures to bring home the point of good overall maintenance of siding and if your home inspector brings up siding defects address them as soon as you can.
