The beloved author/illustrator Nikki McClure will read aloud her new picture book, “Waiting for High Tide.” She teams up with members of the South Sound Estuary Association (SSEA), who will present a “show & tell” about animal life in the South Salish Sea. The star of this program, however, could be the South Sound region itself.

The book reading and presentation is hosted by the Olympia Timberland Library on Saturday, May 14 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will appeal to both children and adults.

The book,”Waiting for High Tide,” is inspired by real events, McClure said. The events she describes were, in turn, inspired by her South Sound home, a land and seascape that features in virtually all her books. In this quiet chronicle, a family undertakes a summer project. McClure describes the story: “So, we built a raft, we waited for the tide, my son, my husband and me, and all the other creatures on the beach, and in the tide pools. We all waited together.”

Copies of “Waiting for High Tide” will be available for purchase and signing. The SSEA will have information on spring and summer programs, including beach interpretation sessions at public beaches in Thurston County.
