The summit is intended as a forum for the elected officials of Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Thurston County to review issues related to urban density septic systems and options for addressing the issues.

At the original Septic Summit in 2011, elected officials discussed these issues, including impacts to groundwater, surface waters, and Puget Sound. Much work has been done since that first meeting to explore the benefits and challenges of septic system conversion to sewer. Septic Summit 2 will provide an opportunity for elected officials to review that work and explore a proposed path forward. With nearly 17,000 septic systems within the incorporated cities and urban growth boundaries of Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater, this topic affects each of our local jurisdictions. The summit provides an opportunity for an important regional discussion.

The public is welcome to attend the summit. Much of the summit will be devoted to dialogue among the elected leaders. Brief presentations will help set the stage for discussion. Due to time constraints, public comment at the meeting will be limited to written form.
