Secure your ID Day

Consumers can be the first line of defense in protecting their identities. To help protect consumers, Better Business Bureau serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington is hosting Secure Your ID Day on April 18 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. This event features free on-site shredding, cell phone recycling and electronic recycling. Safe Streets will also be on-site providing free children’s ID cards.

Shred-it mobile shredding trucks will be on-site accepting up to three bags or boxes of unwanted documents per person. For electronic recycling, EWC Group Inc will accept computers, monitors, TVs, printers, DVD players, laptops, stereos, receivers and more. Recycled cell phones will be donated to Verizon’s HopeLine program.

BBB staff will be available to answer questions about preventing identity theft and provide resources for victims. View BBB’s suggested Records Retention Schedule to see how long to keep personal information before shredding.
