There is an enduring sense of mystery, even magic, about owls. Goddess Athena’s companion – an owl. Hopi tribal god of the dead – an owl. Owls foretold the death of Cesar, so they say. And some African cultures associate owls with sorcery.

Learn the facts about Owls of the Pacific Northwest at the Olympia Timberland Library, Saturday, September 10 from 2-3 p.m.

Claudia Supensky is the founder and director of For Heaven’s Sake Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation (FHSARR), an all-volunteer organization located in Rochester, WA. She will talk about owls indigenous to this region and the job of caring for those who become displaced, injured or sick. Supensky will  share the stage with seven FHSARR owls, each belonging to  a different species, who will assist her in telling the complex and compelling story of owls in the Pacific Northwest.
