Most chronically homeless people are NOT living on the street because our community is uncaring. Quite the contrary, many chronically homeless people are living on the street because they don’t care about the community that has made abundant, comprehensive services available to them. Enabling and spending more on homeless who refuse to utilize readily available services is wasteful and perpetuates suffering.

Reno has the same thing going on.

Chronically homeless people reject free services and choose to remain the street where they violate municipal codes and quality-of-life laws. Continuing their lawbreaking lifestyles, they disproportionately utilize emergency services, spread filth and disease, negatively impact downtown, cost the city millions in tourism dollars, contribute nothing to Olympia’s future, and constitute a growing burden on Olympia’s financial troubles.

Chronically homeless people REMAIN on the street for ONE REASON: The City of Olympia has pursued failed policies of pity rather than accountability and tough love. The Olympia Police have not been allowed to enforce the laws equally for ALL citizens. Officers are being ordered to act as social workers rather than strong, fair, law enforcement officers.

Reno’s citizens got organized.
