n Hawaiian, it’s Mele Kalikimaka and it is very merry indeed. The “Olympia Aloha Ukulele Pu’ukani” bring a little aloha spirit to town on Wednesday, December 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tumwater Timberland Library.

To brighten the winter darkness, this group of ukulele players will play and sing about holiday luaus, decorating the palm tree and Santa Claus arriving on a surfboard.

Olympia Aloha Ukulele Pu’ukani is a group of ukulele enthusiasts who meet weekly throughout the year to share their love of the ukulele, Hawaiian culture and song. The group is open to ukulele players of all levels as long as they bring their own instruments.

The ensemble is sometimes known as OLY-A, an acronym chosen because it sounds like the Hawaiian word Oli-e – “Rejoice” – and also references the group’s Olympia roots.

All Timberland Regional Library programs are free and open to the public.

The Tumwater Timberland Library is located at 7023 New Market Street. For information, contact the library at 360-943-7790.
