ArtsTalk – Shaw Osha, Painter

Shaw Osha makes visible states which are otherwise internal or fleeting. A series begun in 2013, freezes images of screen shots of archival Soul Train videos in loosely gestural paintings on paper. An homage to the romantic, expressive and, at times, transgressive 1970s soul culture, she uses oil paint to give a sense of collective rhythm and sensuality. This is the first of a four-part series to celebrate Olympia’s Spring Arts Walk. The program will occur after regular library hours and no other services will be available.
