Join the Olympia Downtown Alliance at Music in the Park on July 2 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Port Plaza, 701 Columbia St NW, Olympia, WA 98501, for the first 2023 Music in the Park Concert featuring Down North. This is a free concert series thanks to our incredible sponsors.

Down North is a Seattle / Los Angeles / North Carolina-based quartet that embodies a lifelong passion for music. With a unique blend of psych-infused punk soul, their genre-defying sound defies easy categorization. Like skilled painters with unlimited palettes, they skillfully incorporate diverse elements from the vast landscape of modern Western music.

Comprised of front man Anthony Briscoe, bassist Brandon Storms, guitarist Nick Quiller, and drummer Conrad Real (also known for his work with Ayron Jones and Digable Planets), the band was gaining momentum after the release of their acclaimed EP, No Retreat Volume 1 (2018). However, the global pandemic abruptly halted their extensive touring plans.

Embracing their motto: No Retreat, No Return, No Surrender;  Down North saw the adversity as an opportunity to showcase their captivating live energy in their recorded music. Thematically, their latest record delves into the timeless subject of love, often exploring its unfortunate failures. The emotionally powerful track “If I,” written by Briscoe’s late sister about domestic violence, resonates both sonically and lyrically.
