Jim Morrell, President/CEO of Peninsula Credit Union, has been appointed as a Member At Large to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for Credit Union National Association (CUNA). CUNA was named by Ballast Research as the most credible trade association in Washington, D.C., across all industries.

Morrell, who has served credit unions for 30 years, including the last 11 years as President/CEO of Peninsula Credit Union, brings extensive experience and expertise to CUNA’s Executive Committee. Under his leadership, Peninsula Credit Union, a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and Low-Income Designated (LDI) credit union, has focused on promoting financial well-being for households at or around household survival budget.

Morrell is an international Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) in the United States and Africa, which enables him to pursue the use of cooperative operating principles to help individuals build financial capability and help communities inspire economic development. He is an active member of various organization boards and committees, including the CUNA Payments sub-Committee (Chair); CUNA Advocacy Committee (ex-officio); WesPay Regional Payments Association (Past Chair); NWCUA Governmental Affairs Committee (Past Chair); Economic Development Council of Mason County; Great Bend Center for Music; The Community Foundation of South Puget Sound (Past Chair); and the YMCA – Shelton Branch Advisory Board.

“I am honored and excited to join the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for CUNA,” says Morrell. “I look forward to working throughout the year to steer CUNA to further the mission of credit unions and continue to promote financial well-being for all, especially our members at Peninsula Credit Union.”

Morrell holds a Master of Business and Public Administration from the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. He has been recognized for his contributions to the credit union industry and his community, including being named the “2021 Credit Union Advocate of the Year” by the Northwest Credit Union Association, “2019 President’s Choice” by the Shelton-Mason Chamber of Commerce, “2010 Distinguished Credit Union Professional of the Year” by the Washington Credit Union League, and “2008 Information Technology Executive of the Year” by Credit Union Times.
