The South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) Music Department will be performing three concerts featuring SPSCC students this December at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts Main Stage: “Lights in Winter,” “Earth and Beyond – Part II,” and “Shades of Blue.”

On Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m., the SPSCC Choirs kindle the hearth with a mix of holiday selections both new and traditional in “Lights in Winter.” The program will feature a special guest performance by the Pierce College Concert Choir.

The SPSCC Symphony Orchestra will perform “Earth and Beyond – Part II” on December 3 at 7:30 p.m. Works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Richard Straus, and local composer James DeHart will be featured. SPSCC Astronomy professor Kathleen Enseñat will introduce the world premiere performance of DeHart’s piece titled “Of Stars…” and has selected images from the new James Webb telescope to accompany the performance.

The SPSCC Jazz Ensembles present an afternoon concert on December 4 at 2:30 p.m. in Shades of Blue. The concert will feature both large-group and small-group ensembles performing selections showcasing the blues and its many different shades.

Admission is a suggested $15 donation at the door. The Music Department concerts are sponsored in part by R.L. Ray Violin Shop. More information is available on the college’s Arts & Entertainment page.
