Beginning April 15, Thurston Community Media (TCMedia) is expanding its media production workshop offerings to include Master Classes taught by visiting industry professionals.

Our first Master Class is Documentary Filmmaking. We are thrilled to announce that local filmmaker, Miseal A. Martinez, will teach this in-depth class in the documentary process.

A director and documentarian, Martínez has worked for more than 25 years in all corners of video and film production. After a successful long career in commercial and advertising media production, Martínez released his first independent documentary, “Raíces del Barrio,” in 2015. Afterward, he filmed “For My Ancestors” in 2020 and is now working on two other documentaries, “Raíces” and “The Last Wave,” to be released in summer 2022 and fall 2023, respectively.

In this Master Class, students will learn compelling storytelling, documentary interview, cinematography, and editing techniques to bring their stories to life. By the end, students will complete a compelling short documentary. Interested individuals should have experience working with film/video equipment and video editing.

The class meets from 5-7 pm on Fridays, April 15 – May 20 at the TCMedia facility, 440 Yauger Way SW, Suite C, Olympia, WA.

Information and registration is available at the TC Media website.

Class size is limited. Register today.

The class is offered in partnership with Olympia Parks, Arts, and Recreation (OPAR). Recreation program scholarships are available through Ina’s Fund at OPAR

Information about scholarships is available by calling 360.753.8380 or on the website.
