The inaugural issue of Great Northwest Wine magazine announced that Westport Winery tied as the seventh most platinum award-winning winery in the Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia). These awards were a result of the Great Northwest Platinum Invitational Competition.

Lighthouse Riesling earned 96-points and a double platinum with grapes grown at Elephant Mountain Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA. A portion of the proceeds from this wine benefits the Grays Harbor Lighthouse Restoration project. The label features an original watercolor by Darrel Easter of Westport Winery’s iconic lighthouse.

Platinum awards were given to Maritime sparkling Riesling (93-points), True Blue Malbec (93-points), Message In A Bottle rose of Sangiovese (94-points), Courage Sagrantino (93-points), and Rapture of the Deep sparkling cranberry wine (93-points).

Double gold medals went to Kraken Cabernet Sauvignon, Going Coastal sparkling Gewurztraminer, Shorebird Chardonnay, Dawn Patrol raspberry Riesling, and Boom Runner sparkling almond wine.

Gold medals were received by Nirvana, a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, Shiver Me Timbers, a passionfruit, orange, guava Riesling, Duckleberry Grunt blueberry Gewurztraminer, and Bog Berry Blush cranberry Gewurztraminer.

Editor Eric Degerman and Publisher Jerry Hug launched Great Northwest Wine after the closing of Wine Press Northwest. Their masthead says, “…our team of journalists has set out to help identify award-winning wines from the Pacific Northwest, to share the stories of those behind them. We focus on those in the cellar and among the vines…”
