The Evergreen State College will be bustling this coming weekend as Evergreen and South Puget Sound Community College celebrate their 2019 graduates, holding back- to-back ceremonies on Friday and Saturday. The Evergreen Parkway will be temporarily closed Friday, June 14, from approximately 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 15, from approximately 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., due to heavy traffic and congestion.
“This year, Evergreen and SPSCC will have their commencement ceremonies back to back on the Evergreen campus on June 14 and 15,” said Evergreen spokesperson Allison Anderson. “This short closure of the Parkway will allow us to get our graduates and their families quickly and safely on their way after the celebration, with minimal disruption to the neighborhood.”
The Evergreen State College and RCE Traffic Control will provide traffic control and detours. The temporary closure will be at 17th Ave. northbound, and at Kaiser Road southbound to allow an expedient exit from the Evergreen campus at the conclusion of commencement.
Residents, business owners and employers who live inside the area are advised to allow extra traveling time. Buses and other municipal vehicles will have access during the closure. Traffic controllers will assist to provide guidance. ###
