Submitted by Washington State Department of Transportation
Late night and early morning drivers who travel on Interstate 5 in Lacey are encouraged to plan additional time to their trips. Starting as soon as Monday, June 18, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin a project to replace aging and worn I-5 bridge expansion joints at Martin Way.
Night Work
- Night single-lane closures will begin as early as 9 p.m. in both directions of I-5.
- All lanes will reopen no later than 5:30 a.m. weekdays.
- All work is weather-dependent.
The project is expected to be complete by mid-summer.
Expansion Joint Information
Expansion joints are a critical component for bridges. They allow sections of a bridge to expand and contract with changing temperatures and traffic loads. The expansion joints on these bridges are decades old.
This work is similar to a previous WSDOT project that replaced aging bridge expansion joints at Pacific Avenue in Olympia last summer.
