Since opening in her doors a decade ago, Jen Ownbey, owner of 8 Arms Bakery, has built a sweet and savory empire baking delicious goods made almost entirely from organic ingredients. Though she started out in a 200 square-foot garage, she is now housed in a 2,000 square foot space located at 8108 River Dr. SE, Suite 108 in Olympia.

The new space has allowed her to expand her business even more, including extending her hours, perfect for the upcoming holiday season. Last year, the demand for 8 Arms Bakery’s tasty treats was overwhelming. This year, Jen is ready. She has already lined up extra holiday help to ensure your holidays are a snap – no baking required.

Walking into Jen’s bakery tells you immediately why people rave about it – the smell is intoxicating and immediately makes you hungry for anything on display. And, knowing Jen uses roughly 70 percent organic ingredients, is icing on the cake.

Jen and her team are already preparing for the upcoming holidays. “It’s never too early to get your orders in,” she says, working while she talks, ensuring every order is filled every day.

An order from Jen will give you plenty of time to visit with family and enjoy your holidays, leaving the baking to 8 Arms. And, with so many options – including gluten free and vegan – 8 Arms Bakery has something for every holiday guest.

Holiday Pies

What’s the holidays without pie? Jen has all the classic favorites and a few delectable, unique creations that can be made traditionally, gluten free or vegan. Each one is handcrafted to ensure homemade taste on your holiday table.

And while not a pie, what says “holiday” more than fruitcake? Don’t be afraid, Jen’s fruitcake is “not your mother’s fruitcake,” she laughs. “You won’t find that weird candied fruit in our cake. Ours is made with dried fruit and it tastes amazing.” This is one fruitcake you won’t re-gift.

Cookies for Everyone (even Santa!)

You can’t have the holidays without cookies and Jen makes over two dozen varieties, including holiday favorites such as sugar, gingerbread, Russian tea (also called Mexican wedding cakes), and thumbprint. Her creativity takes flight with unusual cookies such as chocolate crinkles, cherry-pistachio pinwheels and ginger blast, which are a crispy cookie made with crystalized ginger and almonds.

You can mix and match in an assorted box or order a box of just your favorite. If you have kids wanting to decorate cookies for Santa or for themselves, 8 Arms Bakery lets you have all the fun without the prep work. “You can order sugar cookies from us with buttercream frosting, all ready to be decorated with the family,” says Jen. “You just need to add your own sprinkles and creativity.”

Jen also has one candy on the menu – her incredible almond toffee. Made with chocolate, it’s a handmade version of almond roca and tastes twice as good. It’s gluten free, but not vegan, and makes a great hostess or co-worker gift. It comes ready to gift in a nice bag, just add a bow and you are done.

Savory Treats

The caramelized onion tart is a customer favorite and a perfect side dish. While you would have spent all day baking this yourself, if you order from 8 Arms Bakery, all you have to do is warm it up. Photo credit: 8 Arms Bakery

8 Arm Bakery also has a variety of rolls, tarts and quiches perfect for any holiday dinner. All items come pre-baked, simply warm them in the oven. “We make the holidays easy for our customers,” Jen says.

A favorite savory item are the caramelized onion tarts with parmesan cheese baked inside – a perfect side dish says Jen.  8 Arms Bakery offer six types of rolls, five of which can be ordered gluten free or vegan excluding the fan tans. “The butter is what makes those so amazing and they just don’t taste right without it,” Jen explains. Favorites rolls among customers are her the fan tans and her potato rosemary garlic.
