Let’s just call it a party. On June 30, Acme Fuel will be hosting a Grand Opening for its newly rebuilt, state of the art fuel station from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony, drawings and other prizes. Technically, the station has been open since December, so for Acme staff, the day is as much about appreciating their customers as celebrating the completion of the station.

Acme’s new downtown station includes state of the art pumping equipment and six types of fuel.

“We have a lot of customers downtown who are excited to have the upgraded facility, so we’re hoping to make it a customer appreciation day as well,” says general manager Todd Deck. From 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., visitors can save 30 cents per gallon off the daily rate on E-10 Regular Unleaded and Ethanol-Free Regular Unleaded Gas.

For non-Acme clients, the event is a chance to get Top Tier ™ fuel for a variety of purposes at competitive prices. “A lot of people don’t know that we’re open to the public,” says Deck. “You can come and fill your gas cans with Ethanol-Free fuel for your lawn equipment, your boat, and fill your car with gas at the same time.”

The event will include drawings for Seattle Mariners tickets and gift cards to local restaurants and retail outlets. Anyone who brings a donation of canned food for the Thurston County Food Bank or fills their boat with gas will receive a Fast Fuel floating keychain, says Deck. “We’re asking people to support the Food Bank and this is our way of saying thank you.”

Batdorf & Bronson coffee will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. as well and the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce will perform the ribbon cutting at approximately noon.

While Acme clients get a discount when they use their fuel card, the station is also open to the general public.

Acme has hired a sign spinner for the day of the Grand Opening, shares Fleet Card program manager Allison Dumas. “For anyone who doesn’t know where we are, just look for the sign spinner on State Avenue in downtown Olympia, pointing you toward the station.”

The new station is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will provide a number of features that increase convenience for the clients, including the high flow diesel pumps for big rigs with satellite pumps that allow trucks to fill both sides at once. “We have new, state of the art pumps that are more user-friendly,” says Deck. “Our DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) from a pump saves our customers time and money instead of purchasing packaged DEF at a separate location.”

The original station was built in 1986 and has attracted clients from around the region, including many downtown businesses. While it was closed last year, many traveled to Acme’s Lilly Rd. facility to get their fuel, waiting patiently for the new station to open.

The original station was built in 1986, but shut down during construction, re-opening in December 2016.

Now clients can choose from six different types of gas, including regular, mid-grade and premium grades of both E10 fuel and Ethanol-Free fuel, as well as Off-Road Diesel and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). Acme is one of the only companies in the area to offer Ethanol-Free Gas, which is better for boats, motorcycles and landscaping equipment to vintage cars. “Newer cars can run fine on E10,” says Deck. “But for motorcycles and older cars, you need something that doesn’t gum up the carburetor, especially for engines that you’re not using every day. It can cause problems.”

Demand for Ethanol-Free Gas is constant, but tends to peak in the summer months. “You have lawns that need to be mowed and it’s also boating season,” says Deck. “We definitely see more demand in the summer.”

Aside from boat owners, truckers and classic car enthusiasts, the Ethanol-Free fuel has been attracting a new set of clients. “I’ve had Prius owners tell me they get better mileage when they use Ethanol-Free Gas,” says Dumas. “Apparently it’s better for hybrid vehicles. People will come from far away just to get our fuel.”

For Thurston County residents, however, the drive isn’t long to get the great products and service offered at Acme Fuel’s Fast Fuel locations. Join the celebration on Friday, June 30 and party with your community and this 92-year-old local business. Bring your weekend toys along and you’ll leave weekend ready.
