For the second year in a row United Way of Thurston County will be celebrating April Food Day by holding a food drive for the Thurston County Food Bank. Participants can bring their contributions to the United Way office from March 27-31 which will be transported to the food bank on April 1, otherwise known as April Fool’s Day. This year’s goal is one ton (2,000 pounds) of non-perishable food to stock the shelves of the Thurston County Food Bank.
“Many people think of food drives as something that only happens in the fall, around Thanksgiving, but there is a need all year. One in five kids in Washington State lives in a household that struggles to put food on the table,” said Randi Nandyal, Development Officer at United Way of Thurston County. “Last year we were able to contribute 600 pounds of food, but I know we can blow that out of the water this year.”
Several workplaces are participating and other groups are welcome to join April Food Day. Flyers, item suggestions and additional information are at www.unitedway-thurston.org/april-food-day.
