Westport Winery Garden Resort earned a record number of twelve medals including one double gold/best of class at the Savor NW Wine Competition held the first week of March in Cannon Beach, Oregon.

Shorebird Chardonnay, produced with grapes grown at the famous Conner-Lee Vineyard in the Columbia Valley AVA near Othello, was awarded Best Chardonnay at the competition. (This is the second time the winery has earned a Best of Class at this event, having received one for Best Red Blend on Jetty Cat in 2014.) A portion of the proceeds from Shorebird benefits Grays Harbor Audubon. The label features a watercolor by Darryl Easter. Mike Peterson of Aberdeen created the sculpture for this wine in the resort’s 15-acre display garden.

Westport Winery sculptureCaptain Grays Gewurztraminer, crafted from old-vine grapes grown at the historic Red Willow Vineyard in the Yakima Valley AVA, earned a gold medal. This wine benefits the Grays Harbor Bishop Center and Symphony. The label was painted by Westport artist Barbara Sampson. A sculpture commemorating this wine was created by Kimmi Kerns of Westport.

Silver medals were awarded to Surfer Syrah, Bella (a red blend), Jetty Cat (a Bordeaux blend), Nirvana (a red blend), Going Coastal Sparkling Gewurztraminer, Shelter From the Storm (a port-style cranberry, blackberry, blueberry blend), and True Blue (a fortified blueberry dessert wine). Smoky Nor’wester Sangiovese, Charterboat Chick’s Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rapture of the Deep, a sparkling cranberry wine, earned bronze medals.

Westport Winery Garden Resort is located on the corner of Highway 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Aberdeen and Westport. The winery (including the restaurant, bakery, nursery and gardens) is open daily and offers lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
